I know how this feels from the inside.
I’m Cornelia Raubal. I spent my career in steel saying what I saw and leading as myself, in an industry that didn’t always expect either. That experience shapes how I work with leaders today.
Always myself. Translator. Trader. CFO. COO. CEO.
I’m the former CEO of an international steel business with around US$250 million in annual turnover. I spent more than 20 years in steel, with board-level and operational responsibility.
I know what it means to make decisions with consequences for people and the business, often in male-dominated environments. I also know how easily the expectation to appear certain can get in the way of asking what you need to know.
That combination is useful when a situation needs both commercial judgement and an understanding of the person carrying it.
I know how work follows you home.
Some of my clearest memories of leadership are of standing apart from my family on holiday, phone to my ear, talking to the office.
At the time, I accepted it as part of being committed.
I understand wanting to do the job well. I also understand wanting a life beyond it, and wondering whether the version of leadership you’ve inherited leaves room for one.
